Playing at the End of the World
How has the end of the world been depicted in board games and role-playing games? How does climate change affect the game industry? What happens after a role-playing game campaign ends?
The 3rd annual Academic Seminar of Ropecon is focused on the end of the world along with its many meanings and representations in games. In addition to being a popular theme in numerous board games and role-playing games, the end of the world is also a contemporary issue due to climate change. How does the current state of our world affect the content depicted in games, game design and the game industry?
Ropecon 2020 Academic Seminar is organised in collaboration with the Center of Excellence: Game Culture Studies (2018-2025) coordinated by the Tampere University Game Research Lab. The Academic Seminar is held mainly in English. Similar to last year, the academic programme track will start in the morning of Friday 24th of July 2020. Ropecon will open its doors to the public at 3 pm.
