Press release 27th of May 2020

Ropecon 2020 to be held online

In April, we announced that due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions placed on public events by the Finnish government, Ropecon 2020 would not be held in July as originally planned. We tried to find a way to organise the convention later this year, but unfortunately we were not able to do so. With heavy hearts, we have to announce that Ropecon will not be held in 2020.

The safety of our attendees is and will continue to be our top priority. We hope that the COVID-19 situation will allow for Ropecon to be held in 2021 and preparations for next year’s convention have already begun. Although the traditional convention has been cancelled for this year, we aim to organise a virtual Ropecon on the original convention weekend of 24th to 26th of July 2020. More information on the online programme coming soon. Follow Ropecon on social media to find out more about the upcoming online convention!

Tickets purchased in advance for Ropecon 2020 can be transferred to be used at Ropecon 2021. If you would like to receive a refund instead, please contact us via email at palautukset2020@ropecon.fi. If you have any other questions, please reach out to us either via email (viestinta@ropecon.fi) or through the Ropecon 2020 Facebook event. We will answer all requests for refunds and other messages as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience!

For more information and updates on the current COVID-19 situation, please see the Updates on COVID-19 section on our website. Follow Ropecon on social media as well, more information on the upcoming online convention is coming soon!

Finally, we would like to thank everyone for their continued support. Stay safe, hopefully we will see you online for the first ever virtual Ropecon!

With love,

Ropecon 2020 conittee

Press release 22nd of April 2020

Today, on 22nd of April 2020, the Finnish government has decided to uphold the restrictions placed on public events of more than 500 people at least until 31st of July 2020. Unfortunately, this means that Ropecon 2020 cannot be held on 24th – 26th of July 2020 as originally planned. Ropecon has been following the current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic closely in the past month and it has been the topic of many discussions within the conittee.

We have been looking into different options on when and how to organise Ropecon 2020. Our primary goal is to find out whether or not it would be possible to organise this year’s Ropecon at a later date in 2020. Negotiations with the venue are still ongoing at this point, but we will keep you updated on any possible changes as soon as we know more.

We will be contacting everyone who has already signed up for Ropecon 2020 (programme organisers, volunteers, vendors) about the cancellation of the convention in July as soon as possible. Pre-ordered tickets can be used at the Ropecon 2020 should it be held later this year, or transferred to be used at Ropecon 2021 instead.

For more information and updates on this still developing situation, please see the Updates on COVID-19 section on our website and follow Ropecon on social media. We understand that you may have many questions about the current situation, and we will provide answers and updates as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience. If you have any questions about the effects of COVID-19 on Ropecon 2020, please reach out to us either via email (viestinta@ropecon.fi) or through the Ropecon 2020 Facebook event.

Press release 13th of March 2020

In a press conference held on 12th of March, the Finnish government announced an official recommendation to cancel all public events of more than 500 people until the end of May 2020. Since Ropecon 2020 is scheduled to be held on 24th – 26th of July, preparations for the convention will continue on as usual at this time. Organisers of Ropecon are following the situation closely and if anything changes, we will notify our attendees immediately.

The call for programme for Ropecon 2020 is still open and we would like to encourage our attendees to volunteer as programme organisers. If needed, programme items can be cancelled as late as a week before the convention. Please note that some calls for programme are ending in the beginning of May, when restrictions and limitations set by the government and supervisory authorities are likely to still be in effect. However, we remain hopeful that by July the situation is such that we will be able to organise Ropecon in the usual manner – and for that, programme and volunteers are needed! Online ticket sales for Ropecon 2020 are also still open. If Ropecon 2020 has to be cancelled or re-scheduled due to changes in guidelines or recommendations concerning public events in Finland or due to the time frame for restrictions being extended, we aim to refund all pre-purchased tickets.

Finally, we would like to remind everyone that at its heart, Ropecon is organised by the gamers, for the gamers. It would be nearly impossible to organise Ropecon without the invaluable efforts of both our attendees and our volunteers. That is why we would like to encourage everyone to participate in the making of Ropecon 2020, to plan for and look forward to the main event of the summer as usual!
